Christmas Event at Hagley Museum in Delaware

Christmas at Hagley—A Child’s Wish List

Card games, dolls, puzzles, blocks, and sleds have delighted children for generations. See these antique toys and more during Christmas at Hagley, Friday, November 28, through Thursday, January 1, 2009. Hours are 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The holiday experience is included with regular admission.
Antique toys and games from the mid-nineteenth and early twentieth centuries are displayed in Eleutherian Mills, the du Pont ancestral home. Under the Christmas tree in the parlor, porcelain dolls are alongside a toy carriage with horses, a wooden toy hoop, and a picnic trunk. In the Victorian library, an 1887 version of the Old Maid card game, a four-sided puzzle, and wooden alphabet blocks sit under a tabletop tree. The ice skates and Flexible Flyer sled seen in the terrace room conjure visions of snowy afternoons and rosy cheeks.
