Media's Second Saturday

WHERE ART MEETS SCIENCE

Saturday March 14th

The Media Arts Council (M.A.C.) 2nd Saturday Arts Stroll will take place on March 14th in Media from 6-9pm, highlighting two noteworthy occasions for arts and science enthusiasts. March 14 marks the anniversary of the Media 2nd Saturday Arts Stroll which brings the arts to downtown Media on a monthly basis, as well as Pi Day, an international celebration of math and science. Main events include an anniversary celebration at the Franklin Mint Federal Credit Union and a showing of vintage science film shorts at the Delaware County Institute of Science.

M.A.C. will celebrate their Arts Stroll anniversary together with a Pi Day celebration, with pies made by Media cafes at the Franklin Mint Federal Credit Union starting at 6pm. Second Saturday visitors are invited to stop by to take part in the festivities. Immediately following, the Broozers and the Widener Dance Troupe will perform at the Franklin Mint Federal Credit Union from 6:30-7:30 pm. The Broozers are a jam band drawing from a variety of music: rock, reggae, blues, jazz and punk. Their performance will be followed by a pre-St. Patrick’s Day Irish dance by the Widener Dance Troupe. Vintage Science Film Shorts will be presented from 7:30-8:15 at the Secret Cinema at the Delaware County Institute of Science, projected in rare original 16mm film on a giant screen. The films range from the silent era through the 1950s, including The Mysteries of Science (1910s), Food and Growth (1930), and Our World In Review: Astronomy (1932). Philadelphia-based The Secret Cinema has shown rare and unusual films since 1992, and is dedicated to keeping projected celluloid images of all categories alive.
The featured artist this month is jewelry artist Eileen Newell. Newell’s pieces are wearable art, created from the treasures of Mother Earth. She says, "My jewelry has allowed me to rediscover the joy I found in nature as a child." Her work will be on display at Quincy’s Marquet Basquet Gifts.
This month’s 2nd Saturday Arts Stroll promises to be an exciting event for everyone with 39 participating businesses, featuring enticing main events, a diverse array of artwork from 13 artists, 15 musicians including gypsy jazz, banjo, punk, blues, violin, Christian rock, acoustic folk and hammered dulcimer, as well as other attractions including a Darfur fundraiser, Godspell preview, scarf wrapping demonstration, Reiki for pets, musical theater and a children’s necklace-painting event.

The Media Arts Council is a non-profit arts organization working to support local artists and integrate a wide range of arts into the life of the entire community of Media, PA.
