Artists and Real Estate Owner Team Up at Media’s 2nd Saturday Media, PA


The Media Arts Council (M.A.C.) Second Saturday Arts Stroll will take place May 9th, 6-9pm, in downtown Media. Features this month include a unique group art show, tribal bellydancing and more. The Main Event is This Space 4 Rent, a group art show and sale featuring several MAC registry artists in the former Bill Battey Sporting Goods location on Front & Jackson Streets. Exhibited work includes photography by Mike Berman, paintings by Papi Haupt, handmade bags and purses by Tamme Hoey, jewelry by Dori McClennan, drawings by Drew Arata, and many more.

This Space 4 Rent is a unique, collaborative exhibit that provides artists with a venue to exhibit and sell their work, while offering the real estate company the opportunity to showcase a vacant property in a positive light. This temporary gallery space at 1 W. Front Street is donated by Front Street Capital. The opening party takes place from 6-9pm for all 2nd Saturday participants, featuring live music by Clair Oaks. This exhibit will remain open through May 15, and will include a special event by nationally recognized Feng Shui practitioner HG Chissell on May 13.


The 2nd Saturday Arts Stroll will also feature a tribal bellydance performance by Le Jardin des Femmes at the Franklin Mint Federal Credit Union, 7-7:45 pm. This American form of bellydance is improvised by a group of women, and borrows from Egyptian, Middle Eastern, North Africa, Indian and Spanish dance.


The Rose Tree Media District Elementary Orchestra will perform selections from their Spring Program at the Media Theatre, in the Crystal Room, 6-6:45pm.


Children’s activities include face painting and necklace making at the Franklin Mint Federal Credit Union starting at 6pm.


This month’s 2nd Saturday Arts Stroll includes 45 businesses, art at 18 locations including caricatures by Colin Harris, New Orleans scenes, pottery, sculptures, mixed media, photography, student artwork, jewelry, watercolors, paintings, 17 musicians including blues, folk, pop, singer/ songwriters, jazz guitar, violin, honky tonk, and drum circles, as well as lapidary demonstrations, yoga, World Fair Trade Day events. The Media Arts Council is a non-profit arts organization working to support local artists and integrate a wide range of arts into the life of the entire community of Media, PA.
