I wanted to share what a wonderful and fun experience I had a this cute store in Media, called Colleen and Company. The store sells custom handbags that are made right there in the store by the owner Colleen McKenney. I received a gift certificate for my birthday and waited until after the holidays to have some me time, while the kids were in school. I was a little nervous because I am not a designer and being in the mommy world for the last 6 years means all my fashion sense went out the window the day I gave birth. Colleen started out by asking a few questions about bag styles and what I wanted to use the bag for. Since everyone is potty trained, I don't need a diaper bag, but I still need a bag big enough to hold coloring books and crayons. I decided on a medium sized bag. Then Colleen asked me what I planned on using the bag for, everyday or weekends only. I said I wanted a bag I could use everyday. She continued asking, what colors I wear mostly and I finally settled on black suede for the outside. Then we talked about the handles. Since I wanted to use it everyday, I decided on 2 shoulder straps so I could still carry a kid, and have the purse on my shoulder. Next we discussed how many pockets I needed for the bag. The style I choose had an outside pocket, but I needed a pocket inside to keep things organized. Another option I considered was adding a cell phone pocket, but I thought the large pocket on the inside would be enough. I got to pick the fabric for the liner and Colleen showed me what options would work the best. Lastly, I added a monogram to my bag. Colleen showed me several monogram combinations and my creation was complete. I loved the end result!
A week later Colleen called to confirm that the bag was ready and I couldn't wait to pick it up. I love the bag I designed and I've received so many compliments on it. What do you think?
