Lansdowne Author Celebrates Children’s Book Week

Lansdowne author Becky Birtha will be the guest of honor at the Lansdowne Public Library’s celebration of Children’s Book Week. Birtha will present a story hour at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 12, 2010, reading from her picture books, Grandmama’s Pride (Albert Whitman & Co. 2005) and Lucky Beans (Whitman, 2010). Birtha’s books are historical fiction, featuring African American families during two challenging times in history: the Civil Rights Movement and the Great Depression. Contact the Lansdowne Library at 610-623-0239.

On Saturday May 15, 2010, Pendle Hill, the Quaker Retreat and Conference Center in Wallingford, PA, will host a Bean Lunch and Book Launch Celebration for Birtha’s newly published book, Lucky Beans, illustrated by Nicole Tadgell. The festivities begin with lunch at 12:20 in the Main House, followed by a story time and book signing at the Pendle Hill Bookstore in the Barn, from 1:30 to 3:30 pm. Lunch is $8.00 for adults, $1.50 for children ages three to twelve, and free for children under three. To make a lunch reservation, contact Pendle Hill at 610-566-4507, ext. 139.
