Young Peoples Theatre Workshop presents Once On This Island, a musical retelling of The Little Mermaid.

When ONCE ON THIS ISLAND debuted in New York in 1990, both audience and critics raved. In The New York Times, Frank Rich raved that the lyrics were “simple, direct, and poignant,” and that the audience was likely to leave the theater “ready to dance down the street.” Young People’s Theatre Workshop will open this musical by Flaherty and Ahrens, composers of Seussical and Ragtime, on the mainstage of The Players Club of Swarthmore on May 27th. It features gifted young actors in grades 2 – 12, a live band and full scale sets and costumes. The performance dates are May 27, 28, 31, June 3 and 4 at 7:30 p.m., May 30 at 6:00 p.m. and May 29 and June 5 at 2:00 p.m. All tickets are $12.00 and all seats are reserved.

The parade lines up at Lansdowne and Lacrosse at 9:30 and launches at 10 am on May 30th, proceeding south on Lansdowne to Essex and on to the Penn Wood High School field and World War monuments for ceremonies with our veterans.

The best part for parents is the kids eat free offer on Monday’s. Not just your typical small plate, the kids meals were substantial. In fact, the hamburger was large even for an adult sized portion. Each kids meal comes with ice cream for desert.

Small Family Parties
Spring is time for graduations, Holy Communions and Confirmations. If you’re considering a family gathering with 10 to 20 people Generations has some great options. Choose from a private room in the back of the main dinning room or a room with an atrium-like setting flooded with natural light. Either way this versatile restaurant can meet your venue and menu needs.

Banquet Facilities
Yes, they also have a banquet facility that can fit up to 100 guests or can be separated in half for a smaller event like a benefit or a sweet sixteen party.

Generations is large enough to offer all this flexibility but somehow retains a smaller family environment. It’s not a big catering hall with mass produced food. Good food, newly renovated environment and good service.

Generations is good pick for a family dinner or family event.

Strawberry Festival fundraiser on Saturday, May 21 from 3 – 7pm (rain or shine) at Rose
Tree Elementary School, located at 1101 First Avenue in Media. A celebration of family and
community spirit, the Strawberry Festival is a fun-filled afternoon of affordable games for kids of
all ages, prizes, live music, delicious picnic-themed foods and strawberry-themed desserts and
baked goods.

In addition to games including Minute to Win It, Angry Birds and Break the Plate, families can
pan for semi-precious gems in a real water-operated Gem Mining sluice built and donated by
Media-based carpenter, Michael R. Rhile. Rose Tree Fire Company will also be on-hand to give
kids the firefighter experience by letting them try on firefighting gear and target shooting with a
real fire hose. There will also be a Home Run Derby, a silent auction with prizes donated by local
businesses, and a Bake Off competition where local residents will showcase their best strawberry
creations for a chance to win the Silver Pie Pan prize.

Sponsored by the Rose Tree Elementary Parent Teacher Group (PTG) and area businesses, proceeds from the Strawberry Festival enable the PTG to provide important funding for the school’s library resources, computer technology, classroom trips, assemblies and much more.

The Creative Living Room premiers “Queen of the Honey Bees” a new original fairytale performed by puppeteer, Peter Bruckner of the Marionette Theater of the Stars.
