Celebrate the Holidays at Media’s 2nd Saturday Arts Stroll

Saturday, Dec. 11, 6-9pm

The holidays will begin in downtown Media with the Media Arts Council (M.A.C.) 2nd Saturday Arts Stroll, December 11, 6-9pm. Visitors will enjoy holiday music, unique visual art, and special holiday activities.

The Main Event is a holiday concert by the Friends Choir at the Delaware County Institute of Science (DCIS), 7:00-7:45pm. M.A.C. and DCIS welcome back the Friends Choir who performed during 2nd Saturday in January. This gospel choir, composed of dedicated singers from the greater Philadelphia area, was formed in 2003, motivated by the need to bring positive social and cultural experiences to the Chester Upland school district. They have become a renowned vocal group who has performed throughout the tri-state area with the mission of inspiring a sense of community and spirituality. All ages are welcome to experience the powerful vocal performance of this choir.

The Featured Artist this month is painter Carol Mangano, whose work will be on display at the Coffee Beanery. “The Post-Impressionist & Impressionist styles often inspire me to paint the essence of the landscapes and fresh flowers,” says the artist. “Painting on location adds excitement of the changing shapes of the objects and bold characteristics.”

Also featured this month is a performance by musicians from their Peace On Your Way CD. This collection of holiday songs by local musicians has become a soundtrack for the holidays in Media. They will perform at the Coffee Beanery 8:00-10:00pm.

This will truly be a festive evening with additional holiday attractions sponsored by the Media Business Authority. Santa will be at the Franklin Mint Federal Credit Union, and the Hedgerow Theater will be caroling throughout downtown and roasted chestnuts will be available at the Courthouse.

More than 40 businesses will participate in the 2nd Saturday Arts Stroll, featuring musical theater, guitar, Irish rock and roll, children’s music, paintings, photography, mixed media Indian art, tapestries, jewelry, pottery, handmade crafts, ornament-making, student art, and face painting, fair trade wine samples, poetry, and an improve jam session. Also exhibited at the M.A.C. Window Gallery at Bryn Mawr Trust this month are dragon sculptures and tiles made from local clay by sculptors Andrew Arata and Bob Deane. All are invited to join in the community festivities to welcome the holidays.

The Media Arts Council is a volunteer-based organization working to support local artists and integrate a wide range of arts into the life of the entire community of Media, PA. M.A.C. is currently conducting its Holiday Campaign fundraising drive to gain support of future arts events and opportunities for local artists. Contributions from businesses and individuals enable M.A.C. events to remain free and accessible to all. All donations are tax-deductible.
