A Special Fundraiser for Japan Earthquake and Tsunami Relief

In light of “Children’s Day”, a national holiday celebrated on May 5th in Japan, TCLR along with other Swarthmore merchants, will be presenting very special events for this First Friday to help raise much needed funds in support of the victims of the recent Earthquake and Tsunami. Our special guests, local parents, teachers and artists all natives of Japan, will share the cultural arts of traditional kamishibai storytelling, songs and music played on the koto, craft time making ‘koinorbori’ fish kites, also a Kimono and skateboard auction. The destructive earthquake and tsunami on March 11, 2011 has caused unimaginable consequences for over 150, 000 displaced Japanese children and families as they suffer with the loss of family members, the lack of food and clean water, homelessness and the nuclear crisis. Together as a community we can bring hope and cheer by celebrating the beauty of Japanese culture and raising awareness of our intrinsic connection to our global family.
