Tomato and Pear Festival at Linvilla Orchards

Bring your whole family down to the farm for a PEARfect fun-filled day at Linvilla Orchards annual Tomato and Pear Festival!

You can pick your own tomatoes and pears from our fields. A wide variety will be available including Linvilla's favorite heirloom Brandywine and Pineapple tomatoes or our unusual pear shaped Japanese Black Trifele tomato straight from the vine!

Join us for real pony rides, games & contests or play on our world-class playground. Be sure to enjoy some savory salsa, juice, pies and other sweet treats in the Farm Market made from our very own tomatoes and pears!

Hayrides throughout our beautiful orchards and fields, face painting, ice cream and the Linvilla Grill.

9:00 am Linvilla’s own Beekeeper Warren Graham! (until approx. 5:00 pm)
Warren will be showing off our observation beehive and discussing bees and beekeeping while displaying his locally produced honey which is available at Linvilla Orchards.

10:00 am Educational Class: Terrarium Gardening
Our staff will demonstrate how to make a one of a kind terrarium using miniature plants in a glass container. We will teach you how to create and care for your terrarium so that it brings you years of joy. Instructor: Elaina

10:30 am Costumed Character: Mr. Mouse

11:00 am Educational Class: Cooking with Judi
Linvilla's Judi Novak will demonstrate how to prepare two great recipes one for each of the stars of our Tomato and Pear Festival! Following the demonstration you'll get to sample her dishes.

11:30 am Costumed Character: Absorbant Sea Creature

12:00 pm Educational Class: Tomato Talk & Tomato Tasting Norm Schultz
Farmer Norm Schultz will discuss growing tomatoes at Linvilla Orchards and explain how and why we grow the many varieties found on the farm. A complete tomato tasting from heirlooms to plum tomatoes will be included so that you can experience the differences between varieties for yourself.

1:00 pm Educational Class: Basic Perennial Gardening
Learn about many of the perennials offered at Linvilla Orchards Garden Center from one of our experts. Where to plant? When to divide? We can help! Instructor: Sue

1:30 pm Piccirillo Sciencetellers: Liquid Nitrogen Demonstration

2:00 pm Educational Class: Herbs Gardening 101
Our staff will discuss the basics of herb gardening and information about the culinary, aromatic and medicinal uses of herbs. Instructor: Toni

2:30 pm Piccirillo Sciencetellers: Potions
This high-energy program is performed by a Scienceteller (part Scientist and part Storyteller) to create a fun, unexpected, and unforgettable experience where science is presented through stories. It is with this synergy of science and storytelling that Sciencetellers engages the audience, by combining these seemingly different ideas and using the resulting reaction to educate and entertain!

3:00 pm Educational Class: Great recipes to take advantage of summer's tomato bounty!
Farm Market Manager Wayne Matsinger (the creator of our popular salsas, tomato salads and bruschettas) will demonstrate how to prepare some delicious tomato recipes! You'll get a chance to try them too!

3:30 pm Costumed Character: Mystery Dog

4:00 pm Educational Class: Making Succulent Troughs
Our staff will demonstrate how to create a rustic trough container garden filled with unusual cactus and succulents. Needing very little care or water, they are the perfect addition to your home. Instructor: Dave
