Miss Molly, creator of ‘Tyler Tales’ at Tyler Arboretum’s Youth Education Center, comes to TCLR for a special story time exploring and discovering the magic of the season. She will read two fall favorites, In November by Cynthia Rylant and The Ugly Pumpkin by Dave Horowitz, in combination with simple activities that focus on what happens in nature in autumn, looking at plants and animals during the month of November. Kids can enjoy a seasonal snack and all families receive “Molly’s Good Stuff”card with activities, games and recipes ideas to use at home for more fun celebrating this time of year.

  Widener University’s FreshBaked Theatre Company will presentThe Legend of Sleepy Hollow on two consecutive Sundays, Nov. 3 and Nov. 10, at 2 p.m. in Alumni Auditorium, located on Widener’s Main Campus in Chester, Pa. The play is for children ages 6 and up and families. Running time is 50 minutes.


In this version of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, award-winning playwright Kathryn Schultz Miller retells Washington Irving’s classic ghost story with young audiences in mind.  The performance packs thrills, chills and laughs and features a spooky jaunt through the woods . . . and a spine-tingling encounter with the infamous Headless Horseman.


The FreshBaked Theatre Company will also host special matinee performances for local schools and homeschooling families on Wednesday, Nov. 6 and Thursday, Nov. 7. Since 2001, Widener’s FreshBaked Theatre Company has produced quality drama for children and families in the greater Chester area. Pumpkin Days at Tyler Arboretum

Fall family fun is in the air as the annual Pumpkin Days celebration returns to Tyler Arboretum in Media, Pa on Saturday and Sunday, October 19-20, from 10 a.m.-5 p.m.!


All are invited to attend the two-day festival at Tyler, which is not only an enjoyable time filled with family friendly activities, games, demonstrations, performances and food, but also serves as Tyler’s largest public fundraiser of the year.


This year’s lineup of demonstrations and activities has something for everyone on both days. From the classic hay rides, pumpkin patch and pumpkin painting, scarecrow making, arts and crafts  and face painting, the 2013 Pumpkin Days will also offer a moon bounce and inflatable obstacle course, a haunted tree house, pumpkin carving demonstrations by William Rush Wood Carvers Club, glitter tattoos and hair extensions by Venus Beauty Academy, and Stubby the Helicopter from the American Helicopter Museum and Education Center.



On Saturday, visitors can enjoy music by the Penncrest High School Pep Band and live shows with owls and birds of prey by Baywings Falconry. The fun continues on Sunday with dance performances by Joan’s Dance Studio and a Halloween magic show by Happy the Clown. Various games, a food court and more round out these fun-filled days.

Location:   Free parking for Pumpkin Days is exclusively at the Penn State Brandywine campus (on Rt 353 in Media PA), where visitors can catch the complimentary shuttle bus to and from Tyler Arboretum. On Saturday and Sunday, October 12th and 13th come see what life was really like during the Middle Ages in Europe.  From the Vikings to the age of Columbus, various encampments will portray aspects of Medieval Life.  See how five hundred years of European culture thrived and changed. Romans, Saxons, Normans, and Vikings, and will portray life of this heroic era of Western Civilization. Finally witness the changes that technology made by the late Middle Ages by viewing the 15th century War of the Roses and Irish encampments. The Romans will demonstrate a ballista and there will be long bow demonstrations at 1:00 and 3:00. Food and refreshments may be purchased.
