Meet characters from the American Revolution, hear their stories, and share their experiences. Learn about park wildlife, and try to spot some yourself. Get up close and personal with fossils from animals that roamed Valley Forge during the last Ice Age, and earn your 2012 Junior Ranger Patch to show family and friends!

Most suited for kids ages 6 to 12.

This event is appropriate for: the whole family

Cost: $5 for adults; members and youth 12 and under are free to tour the house. 

Children ages 6-12 are invited to "enlist" in the Continental Army. Participants will be mustered-in to the Continental Army by receiving enlistment papers and copies of Continental currency. Attendees are encouraged to return for future programs, as the topics covered will be different each time. Those who participated in the first programs will help to teach and train newcomers, just as Washington's veteran soldiers would have done, and will be promoted as the program continues. 


 No reservations necessary. Program takes place the 1st Saturday of each month, January-April, at 11AM, and on Presidents Day, Monday, February 20th at 11AM. Meet at the Visitor Center.

The John Chads House will be open Monday, January 16, 2012 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The last family to live in the c. 1725 house was the African-American family of Maryann Strand. They lived there for close to nineteen years and were the last to live in the house before it was purchased and restored by the Chadds Ford Historical Society, more than 40 years ago. Guides will lead tours of the small stone mansion that survived almost 300 years and tell about its fascinating history. Don’t miss bread baking in the beehive oven in the cellar kitchen! Visitors can walk along the scenic one-mile River Trail from the Chads House to the Brandywine River Museum. There will be refreshments, a video showing some of Dr. King’s speeches, a coloring area for young visitors, exhibits, games, and special activities at the Visitors Center, free of charge.
