Pancake Breakfast & Maple Sugaring Celebration at Tyler Arboretum

TYLER ARBORETUM “STACKS” UP THE FUN WITH PANCAKES AND MAPLE SYRUP

Annual Pancake Breakfast and Maple Sugaring Celebration to be held February 22


 Bundle up and enjoy this annual celebration of the maple tree’s sweet offerings by attending Tyler Arboretum’s annual Pancake Breakfast and Maple Sugaring Celebration from 8:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 22.


Visitors are invited to join one of the ongoing tours at Tyler to discover how sap is turned into syrup, and then take a turn tapping a tree. After, appetites are satisfied in the historic Barn with Tyler’s famous all-you-can-eat pancake and sausage breakfast. Hot coffee and cocoa accompany this delicious wintertime feast.


No pre-registration is required for this event. Adults $12, children (ages 3-12) $6, and children under age three are free. All proceeds benefit Tyler Arboretum. Because this is a fundraiser, no free passes are allowed for this event. The snow date for the Pancake Breakfast and Maple Sugaring Celebration is March 1, 2014.

Bring the magic of natural color to your Easter Eggs this year!
In this hands-on class, kids and adults color eggs with dyes made from onions, beets, blueberries and other natural products, and decorate them with silhouettes of leaves and flowers.

Participants will color six (6) eggs. The Arboretum will supply all materials. Suitable for ages 5 and up.

It wouldn't be fall without Pumpkin Days at Tyler Arboretum! Tyler offers the quintessential fall festival set in one of the most beautiful locations in the area! Get spooked in the Haunted Barn, tour the Arboretum in a hay wagon, make a scarecrow to adorn your front porch, or just watch the little ones dancing to the live music. Kids can enjoy Face Painting, Moon Bounce, Make & Take Crafts, and the ever popular Animal Encounters, featuring live wild animals.

Don't miss this Hedgerow Theater production at Tyler


Nature takes a “bough” at Tyler Arboretum as ten imaginative tree dwellings take root in this centuries-old sanctuary for trees. Each house becomes an outdoor classroom where nature is the teacher inviting visitors of all ages to explore ecology and sustainability while having fun!
Each month of the exhibit, Tyler will host special tree house-related celebrations.
Hedgerow Theatre presents E.B. White’s classic tale, Charlotte’s Web, which tells the heartwarming story of the friendship between Charlotte the Spider and Wilbur the Pig. Two 30-minute shows will be held at 1:15 and 2:15 pm. Parents, bring your cameras and have your children pose with the cast after the show. Additional activities include a craft project using recycled and repurposed materials, and a Shoebox Relay Race that finds a new use for old shoeboxes!

Going buggy! Celebrate Father’s Day at Tyler! “Jon the Bugman” will present his creepy, crawly collection of live and preserved bugs for two interactive shows (at 1:15 and 2:15). Kids can create their own insects to take home with a dryer sheet butterfly craft. The Pennsylvania Resources Council will teach us all about the three Rs: reduce, reuse, and recycle. Calculate your carbon footprint, get some innovative ideas for reusing common household items, and play a recycling game. The PRC mascot, Litterbug, will be on hand.

Come learn about the creepy creatures of the night and the Halloween season. Discover the various types of spiders and why they don’t stick to their own webs. Learn about bats and why they are more like us than you think! Find out why the owl is the silent predator of the night and learn what owls eat by dissecting an owl pellet. We will conclude with a creepy craft creation to take home.

Celebrate the end of the gardening season and move beyond the typical jack-o-lantern to create pumpkin and gourd creatures that will be the talk of the neighborhood. Using natural materials and lots of creativity, you will create two works of veggie art to take home.

And during Pumpkin Days, Tyler's overwhelmingly-popular exhibition, Totally Terrific Treehouses, will be open for self-guided exploration. Don't miss this last chance to see the 17 amazing tree-inspired dwellings, which combine feats of engineering, imagination, and whimsy. Totally Terrific Treehouses closes on October 26.

Tyler Arboretum Butterfly House ends September 1st


There is only a few days left to see the Butterflies at Tyler, your kids will love that butterflies can land on them and your kids can get an up close look at the beautiful butterflies. Don't forget to check out the Treehouses while you are there.

Tyler's 1,400 square-foot Amazing Butterflies butterfly house is open for the season. The house is home to native butterflies in all stages of their life cycles, including monarchs, sulphurs, hairstreaks, red-spotted purples, great spangled fritillaries, painted ladies, and swallowtails. Actually, the hours for Tyler are:Mon-Friday, 9 to 5Sat-Sunday, 9-7But that's only until Sept. 7. After that, the closing time on the weekends is 6 pm. Closing time is 4 pm weekdays and 5 pm weekends by the time we get to October 20.Also, the Totally Terrific Treehouses exhibition is now extended through Oct. 26th due to popular demand
