THE GREAT DUBOIS, the two-person circus act that was showcased in the movie The Greatest Showman is coming to West Chester University for one performance only on Friday, November 4 at 7 p.m.  Tickets are now on sale to the public at www.wcupatix.com or 610.436.2266. The performance will take place in the Emilie K. Asplundh Concert Hall, Philips Memorial Building, 700 S. High Street, West Chester.

 

Hailed as a fast-paced high energy circus show for all ages, The Great DuBois act includes juggling, hula hoops, unicycle, aerial, circus stunts, contortion, magic, and audience interaction all wrapped in a blanket of comedy.  In addition to being featured in The Greatest Showman, The Great DuBois has also been seen in the hit Broadway show Pippin, and on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno and Late Night with David Letterman, among others. The Great DuBois is made up of Michael DuBois and Viktoria Grimmy, who have five generations of circus performing experience between them.

 

The Great DuBois is being presented as part of the University’s WCU Live! performance series. The remaining WCU Live! season includes: Erin Brockovich will speak as part of the President’s Speaker Series on Saturday, March 11 at 8 p.m.; Rhythm of the Dance on Tuesday, March 14 at 7 p.m.; and Tamagawa University Taiko Drumming and Dance on Tuesday, April 11 at 7 p.m. Tickets for all of these event are also on sale at www.wcupatix.com.

With a jazzy, delightful score, adorable characters, and powerful lessons, this production is perfect for the entire family. Performances are August 1, 2, and 3 at 10:30 a.m. and on August 2 at 7:30 p.m. at the Upper Darby Performing Arts Center.

Tickets are affordably priced at $8-$12 and members of The Upper Darby Performing Arts Center save $1. Tickets may be purchased at udpac.org or by calling the box office at 610.622.1189. The Upper Darby Performing Arts Center is located at 601 N. Lansdowne Avenue, Drexel Hill, PA., minutes from the Main Line and Center City.

The show runs one hour with no intermission and is ideal for ages four and up. The theater offers free parking and free babysitting on site for the very young. Young audience members are encouraged to come early for a fun activity and to stay after the show for a meet-and-greet with the performers.

The uplifting musical comedy “Freckleface Strawberry The Musical” will light up Upper Darby Summer Stage. Based on the bestselling book written by actress Julianne Moore, “Freckleface Strawberry” features toe-tapping songs and dances and explores important lessons such as embracing one’s differences. Performances are July 25, 26, and 27 at10:30 a.m. and on July 26 at 7:30 p.m. at the Upper Darby Performing Arts Center.

A Review of Arden Children's Theatre Presents Peter Pan




Are you looking for an adventure this holiday season? Maybe one that will take you to “where dreams are born, and time is never planned.  Just think of happy things, and your heart will fly on wings, forever, in Neverland.”  I know just the place that will take you to Neverland.  Arden Theatre Company celebrates the 20th Anniversary Season of Arden Children’s Theatre with Peter Pan.  
My family and I had the chance to see this amazing show.  If you have been to the Arden Theatre for a show before you know that they always add a different perspective to the original story.  With Peter Pan, the story is the same but it's brought to life in a new way.


The story starts out with Wendy as a mother raising her daughter Jane.  Some of my favorite characters from Peter Pan are also grown up.  Michael, Wendy's brother is there and so is Charlotte, Wendy, and Michael's mother.  Wendy's daughter asks for the family to tell her a bedtime story about Peter Pan.  The family recounts their past adventures with Peter Pan.  As Jane falls asleep the audience is taken back in time to when Wendy first met Peter Pan and how she and Micheal flew to Neverland with Peter.  Don't fret Captain Hook, Smee, the Lost Boys and even Tiger Lily are all part of the story.


I always love how creative the Arden Theatre is about how they tell a story.  It's always outside of the box, which I feel helps the children in the audience to encourage them to use their imaginations.  My two favorite creative effects in the story were the lights they used for Tinker Bell and the camper becoming the crocodile.



I grew up reading and watching the movie Peter Pan as a child but seeing it as an adult/mother, the story took on a whole new meaning.  As a child, I thought that going to a magical place with no responsibilities or parents meant a world of fun and adventure.  As a mom, I realized that when Wendy allowed Jane to go to Neverland with Peter Pan she was letting go as a mother and allowing Jane to grow up and spread her wings.
