Skippyjon Jones, a new musical based on the bestselling book by Swarthmore’s Judy Schachner, will be performed by the professional actors of Theatreworks USA at Upper Darby Performing Arts Center on Friday, February 20 at 7:30 PM. The 60-minute musical is recommended for children ages 4 and up.

Players Club of Swarthmore Children’s Theater Presents the Jungle Book



It’s a jungle out there – and at the Players Club of Swarthmore this August! PCS Children’s Theater rounds out their season with the wonderfully imaginative and creative play, Jungle Book. Local adult and child actors tell the tale of Mowgli, a jungle boy raised by wolves. 

Recommended for children ages 3 and up, Jungle Book introduces us to Mowgil and his good friends Baloo, the bear, Bagheera, the panther and Kaa, the python snake – all living together in the jungle. Our hero, Mowgil, is tasked with defeating his mortal enemy Shere Khan, a man-eating tiger, who wants to rule the jungle. Mowgil doesn’t have to face his enemy alone though – the audience gets to help by portraying jungle animals such as monkeys, elephants, wolves, reptiles, bees and even a tropical storm! This fun show encourages audience participation and also contains a message about the importance of ecology.

Ticket Giveaway to See Disney's" Alice in Wonderland Jr." at Upper Darby Summer Stage




Travel down the rabbit hole as Upper Darby Summer Stage closes its 39th season with Disney’s “Alice in Wonderland, Jr.,” a fun-filled stage adaptation of the classic animated film.  Performances are August 13, 14, 15 at 10:30 a.m. and on August 14 at 7:30 p.m.
The 70-minute performances of “Alice in Wonderland, Jr.” will take place on August 13, 14, 15 at 10:30 a.m. and on August 14 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $7 – $10 and may be purchased online at www.udpac.org or by calling the box office: 610.622.1189. Children are invited to come early for fun pre-show activities prior to the morning performances and stay after all the shows to meet cast members. “Alice in Wonderland, Jr.” is ideal for ages four and up and free babysitting is offered for those who are too young to enjoy the show quietly. The Upper Darby Performing Arts Center is located in Drexel Hill, at 601 N. Lansdowne Avenue, minutes from the Main Line and Center City. Parking is free.The audience will follow Alice as she chases the White Rabbit into an enchanted land of unforgettable characters and exciting songs. From Zip-a-dee-doo-dah toThe Unbirthday Song, the audience will be singing along as the Cheshire Cat, Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum, the Mad Hatter and the nasty Queen create a wacky and hilarious world of wonder.
Alice (Erin Swisher of Lower Merion) is a very curious girl and is always wondering where her imagination will take her next.  One day, she chases a White Rabbit (Victoria Donnelly of Havertown) down the rabbit hole and goes on an adventure like no other.  While exploring, she meets the Mad Hatter (Scott Berkowitz of Havertown), a dancing Caterpillar (Bethlehem Antoine of Upper Darby) and even escapes the grip of the Queen of Hearts (Anna Rudegeair of Ardmore).  As Alice meets one zany character after another, she discovers many important things about herself.
Audience members are encouraged to bring in new toys and teenage books for the “To Fill the World with Love” Toy/Book Drive to benefit the young patients at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Contributors will eligible for a chance to win a train set provided by Bachmann Trains. Drop-off bins will be located on site at Upper Darby Performing Arts Center.

Written by the people who created the new Broadway version of Mary Poppins, the show is a fun, contemporary version of The Ugly Duckling. It teaches all that it is OK to be different and that we shouldn’t judge people by how they look but by what is on the inside.

The characters from Charles Schulz’s classic comic strip Peanuts are brought to life in the hit Broadway musical. It depicts a typical day in the life of Charlie Brown and his friends, including his little sister, Sally, the bossy Lucy, Linus with his ever present security blanket, the piano-playing Schroeder, and Snoopy, the beagle. They play baseball, try to fly a kite, write a 100-word essay on “Peter Rabbit,” all while Charlie Brown tries to catch the eye of The Little Red-Haired Girl.” Among the delightful songs are the title number, “Happiness,” “The Book Report” and “Suppertime

James and the Giant Peach



Imagine one of your favorite stories – one you’ve read over and over as a kid (and possibly as an adult) - coming to life on stage!  In James and the Giant Peach, a local cast of grown up actors takes a magical journey: exploring the wickedness of some, the goodness of others, and the indecision encountered by many when they are faced with crises.

Recommended for children ages five and up, Roald Dahl’s story comes hilariously to life in this delightful dramatization with a magical peach, an imprisoned boy, insect friends and an incredible journey!  This amazing adventure of James Henry Trotter will fulfill the fantasy of anyone who has ever dreamed of escape.  You will see James (as he cleverly gets the Peach out of danger), the wise Old-Green-Grasshopper and the pessimistic Earthworm. You will also see James’ mean Aunt Spiker and cruel Aunt Sponge come to a suitably sticky end. The action is tied together by the Narrator, a storyteller, motivator, emcee and audience friend.


James and the Giant Peach runs Friday, April 11th at 7:00pm; Saturday, April 12th at 4:30pm; Sunday, April 13th at 11:00am; Friday, April 18th at 7:00pm and Sunday, April 19th at 4:30pm.
