The Media Arts Council (M.A.C.) will host a special 2nd Saturday Arts Stroll on December 10th. Downtown Media is decorated with lights for the holidays making it a perfect setting for a festive, arts-filled evening among friends and neighbors.

Prior to the evening events, take part in the Architectural Walking Tour, 2-4pm. Local historian, author, and long-time Media resident will lead an engaging tour and discussion of the history of Media through appreciation of historical buildings such as the Delaware County Courthouse, the Delaware County Institute of Science, Borough Hall, and more. Tickets may be purchased for $10 at www.mediaartscouncil.org/walking-tour.

Evening events will include many live musical performances including the fascinating Main Event performance by Kip Rosser, lauded Theramin and Musical Saw player, at the Delaware County Institute of Science, 7-7:45 pm. For over thirteen years, Kip Rosser’s solo performances, staged productions, award-winning compositions, and industry recognition on this difficult-to-master grandfather of all electronic instruments have earned him a reputation as one of today’s most accomplished thereminists. Formally trained in theatre, Rosser often takes his appearances beyond a standard classical music recital format – incorporating stories, history irreverent Sci-Fi tributes and even audience particpation. This will be a fascinating experience for all ages.

The Featured Artist this month is painter Rinal Parikh, whose work will be on display at Dos Gringos Mexican Kitchen. A self-taught artist, she draws on a childhood fascination with color and composition, portraying spontaneity and energy with saturated color in various media. Her subjects are influenced by life in her native India, and she studies the many different styles of Indian painting that vary from state to state: "Although they are from the same country," she says, "they are very different from each other- I find it intriguing." Rinal's work has appeared in India in group exhibitions and on magazine covers. In the United States, she made her debut with a solo exhibit at The Creative Living Room in Swarthmore, and has been featured in exhibits at Swarthmore Borough Hall and all year long exhibit Tyme Gallery in Havertown.

The Media Arts Council (M.A.C.) will host the 2nd Saturday Arts Stroll in downtown Media on October 10, 6-9pm, offering a wide array of artistic experiences for all to enjoy.

The main event this month is the Media ICONS & Beyond Photography Exhibit Opening Reception, taking place at 323 West State Street, 6-9pm. The exhibit features more than 30 works selected as finalists in this photography contest. Awards will be presented at 8pm. The opening reception also features music on hammered dulcimer by Elliott Schmuckler.

Families will enjoy many attractions this month, including student art exhibitions, magic, and hands-on activities. O’Malley’s Ice Cream will display work by students from the School of Rose Valley, while Joseph Kinsolving, “The Marvelous, Magic Music Man” performs from 6:30-8:30pm. Kinsolving entertains with folk music and sleight of hand, providing captivating entertainment for all ages.

Quincy's Marquet Basquet Gifts also presents a student exhibition. "The Colors of Us" is an exhibit of self-portraits by 2nd grade students at the Media Providence Friends School.

The First Keystone Bank Window Gallery, a monthly exhibit opportunity for M.A.C. Registry Artists, introduces a new display of paintings and drawings by Media artist Papi Haupt and jewelry by Eileen Newell.

Cafes and shops offering a combination of live music and local artwork include Seven Stones Gallery, The Coffee Beanery, Sweets ‘n’ Stuff and Earth & State.

More than 40 businesses on and around State Street participate in this month’s 2nd Saturday Arts Stroll. Fifteen locations display artwork by local artists, including paintings, drawings, photography and jewelry. Live music at fifteen locations includes singer-songwriters, violin, rock, folk, blues and pop. Also featured are lapidary demonstrations, Reiki, Tango, gingerbread decorating, musical theater, and more.
