Join Colonial Playhouse each Second Saturday of the month for an interactive show designed for the whole family! Each performance will be followed by a fun activity and snack. For Ages 3 and up.




Linvilla Orchards has partnered with The Historical Car Club of Pennsylvania (HCCP) for over three decades to present their annual Spring Meet. More than 250 spectacularly restored and maintained antique, classic, and muscle cars take over one of Linvilla’s big fields.  Previous highlights have included a 1913 Ford Model T, a 1938 Ford Woody Wagon, a 1958 Chevy Impala and a 1962 Chevy Corvette.

Raspberry Festival at Linvilla Orchards



Come celebrate Raspberry season by joining in on the fun at the annual Raspberry Festival at Linvilla Orchards. Gather up all the fruit you can on Saturday, June 23rd. The festival, packed with entertainment as flavorful as the berries, is sure to result in a day of family fun, so don't leave anyone at home!

Picking starts at 8 a.m. so start your day early in Linvilla's fields picking the freshest and juiciest raspberries around. More excitement starts at 9 a.m. as master sand castle builder Chuck Field of Sand Pounders sculpts an eight-ton sandcastle. At 10 a.m. and noon Silly Joe Sings will have both kids and adults moving and shaking as he plays his guitar to get everyone going. The local R&B band, Special Brew'd will be performing at 11 a.m.,1 p.m. and 3 p.m.You can catch the comedy and magic of John Cassidy who holds the record for the fastest balloon art in the Guinness Book of World Records®, at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.

Bring your camera to capture a photo with Mystery Dog, Backpack Girl or Dr. Duck. Keep the camera handy for that photo of the little one on a real pony ride. Take a face-painting break and watch as your family gets transformed into their favorite animal or superhero.

The Butterfly House opens on June 10th, but not without help from our friends. During this class learn about our native butterflies and which ones we want living in the Butterfly House. Following a lesson on how to catch butterflies using nets, we go out to see what we can catch to add to the House. You will be surprised - it is not as easy as it looks:
Grab the kids and come have fun at Tyler. Interactive programs let kids and their grown - ups learn, create or explore nature and plants together. Fee is for each adult and each child. Pre - registration required; $6 members, $8 non-members.

Free Open House From 6:15-8:15 p.m.to View this Rare Event



The Widener University Observatory invites the public to attend a free open house on Tuesday, June 5 from 6:15 – 8:15 p.m. to view the planet Venus as it transits across the face of the sun. The transit of Venus – when the planet passes directly between the earth and the sun – is a rare event that occurs in pairs that are eight years apart, followed alternately by spans of 121 ½ years and105 ½ years. The last transit of Venus occurred June 8, 2004. The upcoming transit of Venus on June 5 will be the last time in the 21st century such an event will occur.

Visitors may come at any time during the two-hour open house period to view the transit using the Widener Observatory’s main 16-inch telescope equipped with a special solar filter to see Venus as a black dot silhouetted against the face of the sun.

Admission is free, and all are welcome. In the event of cloudy skies or rain, there will be live streaming in the observatory classroom. For directions to Widener University, go to http://www.widener.edu/stargazing, and click on the “Directions to Observatory” link. Those without Internet access should call 610-499-4003 for more information.

The Widener University Observatory is located on the 5th floor of Kirkbride Hall on 17th and Walnut streets in Chester, Pa.


Linvilla Orchards Strawberry Festival





June 2nd


Get the family ready for one of Linvilla Orchards biggest events of the year. On Saturday, June 2nd, Linvilla  will be celebrating their annual Strawberry Festival. You and your family won't want to miss out on this action packed day! Take a hayride to the fields and start picking! With acres of strawberries, you can pick your own delicious, fresh strawberries right off the plant.

Picking starts at 8 a.m., so make sure you get there early for the crème of the crop. And make your way to the Farm Market at 11 a.m. for the presentation of the Delaware Valley's largest Strawberry Shortcake.

If you're looking to get a few tips and pointers from the experts to spruce up your garden this season, then don't skip the classes at Linvilla's Garden Center.
  • Planting Strawberries will take place at 9 a.m. with Shirley Kline.
  • Gardening Q & A will be at 11:30 a.m. when Theresa Rowan will solve all your gardening problems.
  • Certify your garden as a natural habitat at 4 p.m. with a class on Attracting Wildlife to your Garden.
Kids will also enjoy a busy day at Linvilla while meeting costumed characters that will be making appearances throughout the day. There will be two chances to catch Raptors on Tour, at 10 a.m. or 11:15 a.m., where Birds of Prey can be seen up close and personal while also learning about their behaviors. Makin' Music will get the kids on their feet singing and dancing when they perform from 12 to 4 p.m. There will be games, contests, and fun for the whole family. And that's not all; kids can enjoy pony rides, face painting and Linvilla's famous playground.

Opening Day of Sit A Spell at Tyler Arboretum

SIT A SPELL: Seats That Tell A Tale
Opening Day!


 This summer, Tyler hosts an exciting and unique exhibition entitled SIT A SPELL: Seats That Tell a Tale. Inspired by nature, more than 30 talented artisans have designed outdoor seating of all kinds meant to entice visitors to come out and enjoy their natural surroundings. Truly an artistic community collaboration, these  chairs, benches, rockers and seats in various forms take shape in anything from rustic to whimsical configurations and encourage young and young-at-heart to relax and SIT A SPELL. Two categories of seats, one for adults and one for children invite participation and imagination in every way.  The exhibition is on display from May 26 through October 28.

Families and children will want to take part in fun-filled events this summer centered around storybooks and favorite fairy tale characters.  Totally Terrific Treehouses, a Tyler favorite, are back and better than ever giving visitors a birds-eye view of the natural habitat. The Butterfly House (opening June 30) once again coaxes visitors to get up close and personal with native pollinators from caterpillar and chrysalis to beautiful butterfly.

Pinocchio at Hedgerow Theatre

Media Area Pre-school Fair

Media Area Pre-school Fair November 9th

The MOMS Club™ of Media and the Indian Lane PTG will host the 4th Annual Media area pre-school fair on Tuesday November 9, 7:00-8:30 pm in the Indian Lane Elementary School cafeteria, 309 S. Old Middletown Rd., Media.

Parents in Media and surrounding areas are invited to attend this pre-school fair where representatives from many schools in the area will be available to provide information and answer questions. This is a free event open to the public.


Pre-school registration for next Fall begins in January 2011.

Parents can also gather information about children’s activities in the area including art, music and gym classes. All attendees will be invited to enter the raffle to win prizes donated by local businesses and schools.
