Arden Theatre Company presents A YEAR WITH FROG AND TOAD with music by Robert Reale and book and lyrics by Willie Reale. Whit MacLaughlin directs. Based on the beloved Frog and Toad children’s stories written and illustrated by Arnold Lobel, A YEAR WITH FROG AND TOAD is the first of two Children’s Theatre offerings during the 2016/17 Season.


 A YEAR WITH FROG AND TOAD follows the unlikely friendship between cheerful Frog and the rather grumpy Toad through four fun-filled seasons. Their friendship blossoms and grows as they learn many life lessons along the way. Filled with musical numbers that will make you laugh and cry, A YEAR WITH FROG AND TOAD is a show to delight every age.


 A YEAR WITH FROG AND TOAD includes weekday matinee performances for students and weekend performances for families. Single ticket prices are $18 - $36, with discounts available for groups of 20 or more, seniors, students, military, and educators. Arden Theatre Company presents the World Premiere of HANS BRINKER AND THE SILVER SKATES by playwright, director and screenwriter Laura Eason and adapted from the novel by Mary Mapes Dodge. The first of two Children’s Theatre offerings during the 2015/16 Season, HANS BRINKER AND THE SILVER SKATES runs from November 24, 2015 – January 31, 2016, on the Arden’s F. Otto Haas stage at 40 N. 2nd Street in Philadelphia.





About the Show

My family and I had the chance to review the show this past weekend and as usual, the Arden Theatre doesn't disappoint.  We loved how the set design was done with making the stage look like an ice rink and the way they told the story. My kids loved how it looked like the cast was skating on real ice.   We also loved the lesson the show told about never giving up and being kind to others. Here is some background of the the story:

It’s Storytime! Celebrate traditional tales with a twist! The Hedgerow Company shares classic stories in a way that encourages creativity and interaction. You’ll meet Pinocchio, your favorite cricket, the Blue Fairy, and more as you dance, and sing along in this energetic and creative play. Kids can be a part of the storytelling, too, when they help the story tellers create a brand new audience-inspired tale, as they discover that all that’s needed is a little inspiration and imagination to bring ideas to life.

Sometimes you don’t know what you’ve got until it’s gone! In Miss Nelson is Missing, a local cast of grown up actors and singers explore lessons of appreciation and respect and what happens when uncontrollable children send the gentle, long-suffering teacher, Miss Nelson, over the edge.

Recommended for children ages five and up, our story begins with the children in Miss Nelson’s class - the worst behaved in the whole school. Spitballs flying across the room, paper airplanes sailing every which way and a teacher on the edge! But the students of Room 207 are in for a surprise when Miss Nelson turns up missing and is replaced by Viola Swamp, a scary substitute teacher who assigns homework from hell and wields her ruler like a sword! In desperation, the students set out to find their beloved Miss Nelson…but will they ever get her back?

In this fun adaptation [with a twist!], the grown up players become the teachers for both children and adults – reminding us that we shouldn’t take the good people in our lives for granted. With book, music and lyrics by Joan Cushing and based on the stories by Harry Allard, director Ed Donlevie has assembled a talented cast to tell his tale. Locals from Wallingford, Media, Aldan, Morton, Garnet Valley and Devon bring this story to life: Allison Gerrard, Elizabeth Iannacci, Emily Fishman, Danny Walsh, Ed Sharples and Kenny Fischer.

The show runs Saturday, February 15th at 4:30pm; Sunday, February 16th at 11:00am; Friday, February 21st at 7:00pm; Saturday, February 22nd at 4:30pm and Sunday, February 23rd at 11:00am.

Children's Series productions will be performed on The Players Club of Swarthmore's Raymond W. Smith stage on the second floor. Adult tickets are $10.00 each and Children under 12 are $8.00, cash or check only. This show is recommended for ages 5 and up. All tickets are sold at the door on the day of the performance.

Kids are the stars in this delightful hourlong version of the Broadway hit about the plucky red-headed comic-strip heroine. Annie, desperate to find her parents and get out of the orphanage run by the cruel Miss Hannigan, is taken in by the wealthy Daddy Warbucks. She even gets to befriend President Franklin D. Roosevelt. This shorter adaptation has all the popular songs, including “Tomorrow” and “It’s a Hard Knock Life,” and is perfect for children ages 3 and up.
