Fairy And Wizard Festival at Tyler Arboretum

Join us to celebrate all that is magical in nature. Learn about owls, flowers, toads, and mushrooms. Your family can create a miniature Fairy House or Gnome Home with natural materials to shelter Tyler’s magical inhabitants. Kids can enjoy crafting fairy wands, halos, wizard hats, and magical potpourri to take home. Entertainment includes two Magic Shows featuring Happy the Clown (in her fairy wings) and a Fairy and Wizard Parade led by members of the Penncrest High School Drum Line. Event proudly presented by the Tooth Fairy in partnership with Dental Heatlh Care Associates… the First Green Dental Office on the East Coast!

Shed your bat-phobia! at Tyler Arboretum

Saturday August 13th

Family Program: The Amazing Bats

Shed your bat-phobias and enjoy an evening learning about nature’s only flying mammal, the bat.

We’ll talk about the benefits we derive from these unusual creatures, as well as their history and lore. The evening will conclude with a hike to Tyler’s pond to watch for bats and listen in on some “bat chat".

Grab the kids and come have fun together at Tyler. Interactive programs let you learn, create, or explore nature and plants. Fee is for each participant. Suitable for children ages 7 years and older. Pre-registration required; $6 members, $8 non-members

The Magic Returns to Tyler


This summer the magic returns to Tyler Arboretum with the opening of the Magical Habitats exhibition. The first exhibition of its kind in the Delaware Valley, Tyler’s 2011 seasonal exhibition will make its debut Memorial Day weekend, opening on Saturday, May 28 and runs through Sunday, October 30. The exhibition is free with admission and is open rain or shine during regular Arboretum hours.

The family-friendly exhibit celebrates the domain of fairies, gnomes and their enchanted friends with 23 unique custom exhibits, displays and structures created by local and regional artisans, woodworkers, sculptors, potters, builders and landscape architects.Spread out over a nearly one-mile route, the journey begins in the Mystical Orientation Station with an interactive introduction to our magical inhabitants.

Then, it’s off to explore the popular Crooked Goblin Shack, legendary Troll Bridge and “What Lies Beneath?”writing project. An unexplained door leads underground…it begs the question, what lies beneath? Answer the question by writing a story or a poem. Send your creation to www.TylerArboretumWritingProject.com to be posted on the project website. Kids can create custom homes for a favorite magical friend in the Fairy House Building Area. There you’ll find the Gnome Depot stocked with all types of supplies including sticks, bark, cones, nuts, magnolia

PHILADELPHIA ZOO TO HOST WEEKEND-LONG CULTURAL FESTIVAL

On May 14th and 15th, the Philadelphia Zoo will host a weekend-long festival showcasing the culture of Asia. The celebration, which is the first of four cultural events called the Creatures of Culture International Series, will feature authentic Asian cuisine, activities, performances and demonstrations while educating about animals found in the Zoo that are native to Asia. Creatures of Culture: Asia is free with Zoo admission, and will run from 10am to 4pm on both Saturday and Sunday.



Presented on Impala Plaza performances include Japanese Taiko drummers, traditional Korean dancers and authentic Indian dancers. Stations situated throughout the Plaza include activities that educate children on how they can help animals here and around the globe.



At the Creatures of Culture Series, guests will experience all that the Asian culture has to offer, while viewing majestic animals. Additionally, they can experience X• tink• shun: a wild puppet
x• perience, which features puppets who educate on the plight of their species.
