World’s Largest LEGO Lemonade Stand at the National Constitution Center

Kick Off National Lemonade Days 2012



WHAT: LEGO® Friends and Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) host a 2-day collaborative build of the world’s largest lemonade stand made entirely of LEGO® bricks with the goal of making the 2012 National Lemonade Days (June 8-10) the biggest in its history. 2012 will mark the 9th Annual National Lemonade Days. The Lemonade Stand will be completed in time to serve lemonade on Saturday. Additional building activities will take place during the weekend. The event is free of charge, but donations are encouraged.

In connection with the event, the National Constitution Center will host a variety of interactive programs and activities to honor Alex Scott and her legacy. Children and their families will have the opportunity to make lemon-themed arts and crafts, including bracelets and key chains, which they can proudly display to raise awareness for childhood cancer research. Visitors also can take a special guided journey through the Center’s main exhibition The Story of We the People and learn about child heroes, who, like Alex, have made a difference throughout our history. The Center’s activities are free with museum admission. Children eight and under are FREE with a donation to Alex’s Lemonade Stand!


WHO: LEGO® Friends, a new construction play theme designed to engage more girls in LEGO play, and Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF), a registered 501(c)3 charity. Founded by cancer patient Alexandra “Alex” Scott (1996-2004), ALSF is a national fundraising movement to help find a cure for all children with cancer.

Stargazing at Widener University

Widener University Observatory offers free public viewings


The Widener University Observatory will have public stargazing sessions on Monday's Sept. 20 and Sept. 27 from 8-9 p.m. All sessions are free and open to the public.

All are invited to see the stars, planets and other celestial wonders using the observatory’s 12- and 16-inch computerized reflecting telescopes. Widener astronomy professors, with assistance from undergraduate students, will be on hand to offer assistance.

The viewings will run throughout the school year on Monday nights and one Friday night a month. Highlights of the fall season include the planets Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Uranus and Neptune, along with other spectacular objects such as the blue-yellow double stars Albireo and Almach, the globular star cluster M13 and the Ring Nebula in Lyra. The winter/spring season will feature planets Jupiter and Saturn, the binary stars Rigel, Cor Caroli and Izar, and also the Orion Nebula and the globular star cluster M3.

Home Depot Free Kids Workshop





Home Depot is having a FREE workshop this Saturday, July 3, 2010 from 9am to noon at all Home Depot stores. They are geared towards children age 5-12, but the younger children will likely need some help from you.


The workshops teach children do-it-yourself skills and tool safety, while at the same time helping to instill a sense of accomplishment. Additionally, this fun time allows for quality one-on-one time between adults and children.

In addition to the newly constructed project kit, each child receives a kid-sized orange apron, similar to The Home Depot associates' aprons, and an achievement pin.

Steel Currents


Steel Currents sculpture exhibit opening June 4
explores intersection of nature and art

Sculptor Stan Smokler exhibits metal works inspired by the sea at Steel Currents, open June 4 through July 18 at the Delaware Museum of Natural History. Smokler's welded steel sculptures represent abstractions of a horseshoe crab, lobster, seaweed, nautilus and other marine life.


WHAT: Steel Currents: Sculptor Stan Smokler exhibits works inspired by ocean life with interpretation by the museum's curator of mollusks.

Victorian’s Valentine Day






Families will love this afternoon of crafts and activities. Visitors taste gingerbread, make a Victorian Valentine using the “scrap” method, write Valentine verses with a quill pen, and learn a nineteenth-century handcraft. A special exhibit featuring antique Valentine cards and candy wrappers will be on display. Activities are included in regular admission. The Belin House will also offer an afternoon tea.
