Delaware Museum of Natural History Sesame Street™ Planetarium Show

Join Elmo in a Sesame Street™ planetarium show
to explore the sun, moon and stars!

Join Big Bird, Elmo and Hu Hu Zhu as they explore the night sky in One World, One Sky: Big Bird's Adventure, a planetarium show at the Delaware Museum of Natural History from September 18-22, 2012. The program is presented by PNC as part of its Growing Up Great Together Under One Big Sky mobile planetarium tour.
One World, One Sky: Big Bird's Adventure was created by Sesame Workshop, the nonprofit educational organization behind Sesame Street™, and its partners, with major support from the PNC Foundation. This cross-cultural planetarium show is geared toward children ages 4-6 and provides an enriching, exciting and interactive introduction to astronomy, basic principles of math, geometry and physics and helps children learn about each other's cultures. Follow Big Bird, Elmo and Hu Hu Zhu, a Muppet from Zhima Jie, the Chinese co-production of Sesame Street™, as they take an imaginary trip from Sesame Street to the moon, where they discover how different it is from Earth.
At the Growing Up Together Under One Big Sky mobile planetarium, each child receives a day time/night time activity poster, which is trilingual (English, Mandarin Chinese and Spanish) and has reusable, glow-in-the dark stars to display at home. Prior to the event, teachers at the schools and centers receive astronomy-based curriculum to share with students before the dome arrives, as well as follow-up activities for after it departs.
The Growing Up Great Together Under One Big Sky mobile planetarium is included with museum admission. Show times are limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Call 302-658-9111 or visitwww.delmnh.org for details.

Widener University Observatory offers free public viewings

The Widener University Observatory will have public stargazing sessions on Monday's Sept. 20 and Sept. 27 from 8-9 p.m. All sessions are free and open to the public.

All are invited to see the stars, planets and other celestial wonders using the observatory’s 12- and 16-inch computerized reflecting telescopes. Widener astronomy professors, with assistance from undergraduate students, will be on hand to offer assistance.

The viewings will run throughout the school year on Monday nights and one Friday night a month.
