Upper Darby Performing Arts Center presents the Tchaikovsky’s classic, The Nutcracker, November 16 – 18!. Plus a ticket Giveaway!

The professional soloists and classically trained dancers of Narberth’s Pennsylvania
Academy of Ballet perform the holiday favorite, The Nutcracker.

Featuring professional soloists and dancers from the Pennsylvania Academy of Ballet of Narberth, the performances take place November 16-18




The beloved music of Tchaikovsky, a delightful story, professional soloists, dazzling costumes, and colorful scenery, make this Nutcracker an experience on par with many professional performances but at an affordable cost for all family members to enjoy. The performance is 90 minutes and is entertaining for children ages 4 and up.

The Delaware County Symphony (DCS) will present the third concert of its full symphony series for the 2011-2012 season, 3 p.m., Sunday February 26, 2012 in the Meagher Theatre of the Thomas A. Bruder, Jr. Life Center at Neumann University Aston. The concert will feature pianist Marcantonio Barone performing Piano Concerto No. 1 in C Major by Ludwig Van Beethoven.

In more than three decades of concertizing, American pianist Marcantonio Barone has given solo recitals at the Metropolitan Museum and Weill Recital Hall in New York and the National Gallery in Washington, on the recital series of the Philadelphia Chamber Music Society, at the Ravinia Festival and San Francisco’s Midsummer Mozart Festival, at the Wigmore Hall in London, the Rachmaninoff Hall of the Moscow Conservatory, and the Great Hall of the St. Petersburg Filarmoniya, and in various cities in Belgium, Germany, Austria, Italy, and Malta. In the 1980s and ’90s, he frequently performed as soloist with major orchestras on four continents, in collaboration with such conductors as Sir Simon Rattle, Sergiu Comissiona, Leon Fleisher, Arthur Fiedler, Barry Tuckwell, Antonio de Almeida and Vladimir Ziva.

He serves as head of the piano department and assistant director of the Bryn Mawr Conservatory of Music, where he has taught since 1980. In addition, he teaches piano, keyboard harmony, and chamber music at Swarthmore College.

 Mr. Barone is a Steinway Artist. His recordings are available on the Albany, Bridge, and Capstone labels. 

The concert will also include Pacific 231 by Arthur Honegger and the Symphony No. 1 by Dmitri Shostakovich. Program commentary will be provided by Jeremy Gill, Music Director of the DCS. All are invited to a free pre-concert presentation entitled FIRST by Dr. Michael Kelly from 2-2:30 p.m. in the McNichol Room. There is ample free parking and the center is handicapped accessible. The Delaware County Symphony will perform their final chamber concert for the 2010-2011 season on Sunday May 1st at 3:00 pm. in the Meagher Theatre of the Thomas A. This concert is special because they will feature the winner of their regional youth concerto competition. This years winner is a 16 year old cellist, Bradely Berman who will be performing the famous Boccherini Cello Concerto in B-flat Major.. About Bradley
Cellist Bradley Berman is a 16 year-old student in the Pennsylvania Leadership Charter School, University Scholars Program. He began playing the cello at the age of 5, and currently studies with Gloria dePasquale. Bradley is an Advanced Study Scholarship recipient at the Settlement Music School, and performs there as a member of the Braverman String Quartet. He is Principal cellist of both the Delaware County Youth Orchestra and the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra. Bradley was the 1st place recipient in the Tri-County Youth Festival Competition in both 2007 (Junior Division) and 2009 (Senior Division). In 2008 and 2009 he won competitions and later performed with the Kennett Symphony, the Lansdowne Symphony Orchestra, and the Ambler Symphony. He has participated in Musicopia's “Great Music, Great Houses” concerts, and in 2009 performed in the Atlantic Coast Opera Festival’s production of La Boheme.

The Delaware County Symphony will present the second of its Chamber Concert Series for the 2010-2011 season on Sunday February 6, 2011 at 3 p.m. in the Meagher Theatre of the Thomas A. Bruder, Jr. Life Center at Neumann University, Aston, Pa. There is ample free parking and the Center is handicapped-accessible. This chamber program will feature internationally recognized coloratura soprano Yukiko Ishida with members of the Philadelphia Violoncello Society under the baton of Charles Forbes. Dr. Ishida will perform the beautiful Bachianas Brasileiras No. 1 and Bachianas Brasileiras No. 2 by the famed Brazilian composer Heitor Villa-Lobos. Yukiko Ishida has performed in the Czech Republic, England, France, Germany, Italy, Japan and the United States. Dr. Ishida shares international teaching techniques with Neumann students as a result of her involvement with the International Chamber Music Festival in Evian, France and her lectures in Japan. Included in this program will be the Delaware County Jazz Ensemble performing Original Jazz Arrangements.
